Sri Kabbalamma Temple is a historic Hindu pilgrimage centre in Kabbalu village, Kanakapura Taluk, Karnataka. Dedicated to Goddess Kabbalamma, a revered village goddess and form of Shakti, the temple holds an important place in the religious traditions and cultural life of the surrounding villages.
According to the Bengaluru South district administration, the temple has a history of approximately 200 years. Local legend connects Goddess Kabbalamma with Tamil Nadu and describes how she came to reside in Kabbalu while travelling with her accompanying deities. Over time, she became closely associated with the village as its protective goddess.
The temple’s official Karnataka government record notes that the original shrine had deteriorated and was reconstructed in 2015. An older wooden idol was preserved for devotees to view, while a stone idol was installed in the sanctum during reconstruction. The exact century of the temple’s origin has not been established through inscriptions.
Devotees visit the temple to offer prayers and seek the goddess’s blessings for family welfare, prosperity and the fulfilment of their wishes. Amavasya is a particularly significant day, when the temple attracts many worshippers. The annual Jatre also reflects the area’s longstanding village-deity traditions.
